At P448, we understand that our actions impact the world around us. The fashion industry alone is the second-largest polluter in the world.

As a team, we have set goals to continuously take steps towards reducing our environmental footprint in a variety of areas. From our collections to the sourcing of materials and even the paper that goes into each shipment, we’ve analyzed, identified, and acted on several areas for improvement.

Season after season, we have committed to developing greener collections. Our ever-expanding Invasive Species collection aims to better our planet’s ecosystems and natural habitats by repurposing invasive species into innovative sneaker leathers. Including Burmese python, Lionfish and Carp, we continuously search for new ways to get involved with local communities, find solutions to protect native endangered species and create unexpected designs that look good and do better.

Each pair in our Invasive Species collection directly helps preserve its respective habitat and native species. 

In addition to invasive species leathers, we also developed recycled material collections featuring recycled suede, leather, cotton and more. The regenerated suede is achieved using a chrome-free tanning method that reduces the amount of harmful chemicals used during the production process. This eco-sustainable process reduces water consumption by 67%, uses 52% less chemicals, and cuts CO2 emissions in half compared to standard tanning processes. The recycled leather is crafted with discarded scrap pieces from traditional leather production. Through a water fusion process, we combine the leather scraps with synthetic fibers for a single-material roll ready to craft a new pair of sneakers. This production process reduces environmental impact by 80% compared to traditional leather-making.   

The journey of your shipment matters. When you make a purchase, your sneakers head out on a journey through cars, trucks, boats, and sometimes planes – all of which release damaging CO2 into our atmosphere. P448 is excited to share that we are partnered with UPS’s carbon neutral program, which offsets the CO2 emissions of almost all of our shipments. With a commitment to environmental action in all aspects of our business, you can expect P448 orders to arrive in 100% recycled shipping boxes. Inside the shipping box, you’ll find your order packed in our patented, reusable dustbag, which can later be converted into a tote. We’ve also removed packing slips to reduce single-use paper materials. These updates to our packaging and shipping processes help us save over 2 pounds of paper waste per order.

Sustainable practices don’t just start and end with our products; we implement them in our day-to-day HQ responsibilities. Small changes, like switching to metal cutlery and introducing fresh water filtration systems, help cut down on the need for single-use plastics.

We also created an in-office recycling system to responsibly dispose of all paper, cardboard boxes, aluminum and glass waste. At the end of each day, our teams are mindful to shut down all unnecessary power sources to reduce excess power usage.
